Final YDL Lower was at home today! Fantastic competition although a mini tornado was not quite the end to this seasons YDL we had imagined! Huge thanks to all those who helped when the wind picked up and thoughts are with those injured and/or upset by this unusual event! 🌪️ Despite the competition being cut short our athletes still had a great day and as always thanks to all those who volunteer, coach, manage, facilitate and officiate, without their help the competitions just can’t go ahead. 🔵 Parkrun Tourism – May 🔵 As always our members enjoyed parkrun tourism during the past month, both running and/or volunteering. 🧡 Highlight for May was Tereza volunteering at Dover Waterfront parkrun with VI runners and guides. 🔵 Parkrun Tourism – April 🔵 The months are passing too fast so apologies for the delay in posting April’s tourism! It was another full month for our members running and/or volunteering at various parkruns from England and Wales to the USA. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇸 A key milestone was Jasper completing his 100th parkrun! 🎉 He celebrated this achievement by running at Dartford alongside other members who ran/volunteered! A lovely was to celebrate with fellow Hoops! 🧡 Highlight for April has to be our parkrun Queen, Tereza, volunteering at Mote Park marking her debut as VI guide runner! What a fantastic experience! 🔵 YDL Upper 2026 🔵 Sunday was the 2nd match of the YDL for the upper athletes at Medway. The weather was HOT but that didn’t stop our U18 and U20 athletes have a great day with many finishing in top 3 positions & gaining new PBs! 🔥 As always huge thanks to all the officials, volunteers, coaches, management and supporters who spent the day in the heat ensuring all the athletes could compete and be supported. 👏 Looking forward to the 3rd and final match at Sutcliffe 12th July. 🔵 Kent Championship 2026 🔵 Our athletes smashed it at the Kent Champs last weekend at Medway. We had many athletes compete for the 1st time, athletes gaining new SB/PBs and athletes winning 35 medals between them, 14 🥇, 12 🥈and 9 🥉! See comments for our medal winners. Our supporters as always were out in strength cheering them on and of course we had many of our members officiate and volunteer. 🤩 Huge congratulations to all who competed! 👏 Day 1 we held a minute silence to celebrate the life of John Askew and day two we held a minutes silence for David R Ralph. Both gave so much to the athletics communities and will be sadly missed.
