Jumping for Gold

On Wednesday 24th July, the Welsh Athletics International took place on a Sunday evening in Cardiff . The competition resulted in an incredible performance from U20 athlete, Eloise Harvey

Following an impressive jump of 6.10m at the South of England Championships in Bedford earlier this season, Eloise entered the Long Jump competition as favourite to win for England South. Eloise delivered, securing a jump of 5.91m which was both a gold medal and a meeting performance.

Reflecting on the event, Eloise commented:

The Welsh International was one of my aims for the season but being selected for the long jump was something I never expected to happen!

The whole atmosphere of the competition was amazing all the athletes were introduced to the crowd like in major competitions like the Olympics. Throughout the competition, it was so close between 1st, 2nd and 3rd but in the end, I came out 1st only 5cm ahead of 2nd and I was leading from the third round.

I am so happy to have won the competition for England South and especially in the long jump!

There is no doubt it has been a successful season for Eloise so far, with improvements in her Personal Bests from last year of 45cm and 66cm in the Long Jump and Triple Jump respectively. We wish Eloise the best of luck for the remainder of the season.
